Lift chairs are chairs that rise into the air to aid in standing and sitting. They are personal lifting aids, which are geared towards helping people who have difficulty standing or sitting. There are many different models of lift chairs available, but they are usually divided into 3 categories: 2-position chairs, 3-position chairs, and infinite position chairs.

2-Position Lift Chairs: These chairs are commonly said to be TV Recline lift chairs, which is due to the fact that they are great for watching TV or reading. A 2-position lift chair can recline to about 45 degrees.

3-Position Lift Chairs: These types of lift chairs can recline to a near horizontal position and are perfect for sleeping as well as reading and watching TV.

Infinite Position Lift Chairs: An infinite position lift chair can also recline to a near horizontal position that is great for sleeping. Unlike the other two types of lift chairs, however, the backrest and footrest of an infinite position lift chair operate independently of one another and can be controlled separately.

When learning about the different positions available, a common misconception is that a 2-positon lift chair can only achieve 2-positions. This is of course not the case and a 2-position lift chair can actually achieve many different positions and is only limited in how far it can go back. This is of course also true of 3-position lift chairs.
