Many people both old and young enjoy spending time in their recliner. Whether they are sitting down to enjoy a good book or are watching one of their favorite shows, people love their recliner. As we get older or due to a mobility related problem, it can become hard to stand without assistance and so many people invest in lift chairs.A lift chair is a type of gadget that is intended in large part to counteract the effects of aging on individuals. They have a built in lifting device that raises the chair into the air. When it is fully raised, it becomes much easier to stand or sit in a safe and controlled manner.
The quality and design of lift chairs has greatly improved since the early chairs of the early 1980’s. Originally these chairs were rather large and bulky and were really just regular recliners that someone had added a motorized or spring lift. Models that used the spring were fairly inexpensive, but can be very unsafe and so are not sold by any reputable companies anymore.
This trend of low quality lift chairs changed when Pride Mobility and Golden Technologies began manufacturing their chairs. Both began custom building lift chairs in the mid 80’s and they changed the way these chairs were made. Great attention was paid to detail and quality by these two companies and they revolutionized the lift chair industry.
Today both Golden and Pride continue to lead the industry in quality. Their innovations molded the industry and today new manufacturers follow their lead. These companies manufacture electric scooters, power wheelchairs, and many other types of medical mobility equipment.

A lift chair is used by a person who can not easily stand or sit in a manner that is safe. Most often they are used by the elderly who might have joint problems such as arthritis or might just not have the same balance that they once did. They are not only for the older among us though and lift chairs are used by people of all ages.
Lift chairs utilize a base that is capable of rising and lowering. A remote control or series of buttons on the chair is used and when the chair is in its full upright position, it is very easy to stand. They are also used to allow an individual to come to a sitting position in a controlled and completely safe manner. A newer lift chair will use an electric motor to do the actual lifting and the backrest and foot rest are also controlled electronically. They can also come with some great features like built in heat and soothing massage.
While many who are older do use lift chairs and greatly benefit from them, there are many others who use them. People who have suffered sport related injuries or other types of injuries that make it difficult to stand can receive much relief by using a lift chair. Those who suffer from muscular diseases and those that are overweight also use lift chairs, because they have difficulty standing.
Not only will a lift chair benefit the individual who uses it, but if you are a caregiver, then a lift chair will also help you tremendously. Helping a person stand and sit can put a tremendous strain on your back, this strain is compounded if you must do it many times a day. As a caregiver, a lift chair can be used to help your ward stand and relieves much of the strain you might feel. They even make lift chairs that have removable armrests, which can make it much simpler to transfer your ward.

Lift chairs are chairs that rise into the air to aid in standing and sitting. They are personal lifting aids, which are geared towards helping people who have difficulty standing or sitting. There are many different models of lift chairs available, but they are usually divided into 3 categories: 2-position chairs, 3-position chairs, and infinite position chairs.
2-Position Lift Chairs: These chairs are commonly said to be TV Recline lift chairs, which is due to the fact that they are great for watching TV or reading. A 2-position lift chair can recline to about 45 degrees.
3-Position Lift Chairs: These types of lift chairs can recline to a near horizontal position and are perfect for sleeping as well as reading and watching TV.
Infinite Position Lift Chairs: An infinite position lift chair can also recline to a near horizontal position that is great for sleeping. Unlike the other two types of lift chairs, however, the backrest and footrest of an infinite position lift chair operate independently of one another and can be controlled separately.
When learning about the different positions available, a common misconception is that a 2-positon lift chair can only achieve 2-positions. This is of course not the case and a 2-position lift chair can actually achieve many different positions and is only limited in how far it can go back. This is of course also true of 3-position lift chairs.
